Protecting textiles from moth damage

Larvae prefer dirty, still, dark wool. Clean storage and regular movement of unused rooms do more than cedar blocks.

Before storage

Wash or dry-clean wool and silk. Freeze small items if you cannot clean them. Do not bag dirty jumpers.

Where to store

Sealed boxes beat open wardrobes for seasonal clothes. Vacuum the cupboard first.

Carpets

Move furniture occasionally and vacuum the edges. A room that is never used is a feeding ground.

If damage has started

Isolate affected items and ask for a survey. Surface spray without emptying the wardrobe leaves larvae in folds.
